We got the bus at first light out to Crane Bay and started walking Northeast along the coast. The coastline here is a cliff of the outer edge of a former reef, with sandy bays between. Strong currents and surges make this unsafe for bathing. The path follows the cliff top.

There are quite a few points that are not passable except at low tide (early morning).

Behind the cliff are modern bungalow developments, but there is usually an access road inland if you cannot get round on the cliff.

As the day warms up a deserted beach with a sheltered pool like this can mean that the pace of exploration slows to a stop.
