Sugar free
Sugar is added to most manufactured foods to improve their attractiveness to children, and adults. It can be added to meat products as well as fruit and vegetables. The sugar levels are often disguised by displaying only part as sugar, but quoting levels for sugar, dextrose, glucose, glucose syrup, milk sugar, fruit juice, all of which are sugar, as separate items.
Sugar free diets should be based on fresh meat, fish, wholegrain cereals and green vegetables.
Most fruit and root vegetables including carrots, beetroot and swedes are relatively high in sugar, but as the sugar is enclosed within the plant cell walls it is released only slowly on digestion.
Sugar free

Hello there,
I have eczema and I was wondering what kind of diet would be best recommended?
My diet currently consists of salads, vegetables, organic/free range meat (chicken, beef, turkey, lamb), fish (salmon, tinned kippers, mackerel, tinned tuna), fresh fruits, dried fruits (figs, unsulphered apricots, dates), nuts (brazils, almonds, walnuts, macadamia, cashew), seeds (sunflower, pumpkin, flax), oils (olive, flaxseed, pumpkin, hemp seed), quinoa, raw avocado honey, sea salt. Its gluten-free, dairy-free and sugar-free (apart from the honey).
Is that an ok diet? Could that still be considered 'sugar-free even though i have raw honey? Is dried fruit ok?
And finally, would food combining make a difference?
What are your thoughts on the mono diet?
Many, many thanks,
Sarah Abdennadher

Your diet certainly looks healthy. It is also soya free - a good point as it can be linked to eczema. It should also be low in salt except for the tinned fish.
No diet can be completely sugar free, as sugars are produced by digestion of starches, fruit, dried fruit etc, but keeping the diet low in easily digested sugars and avoiding added sugar is also healthy.
Food combining is unlikely to change the eczema, if this is related to food in your diet, but it can help you to improve your overall health, which may have some impact

My sister has just been diagnosed with Chronic Heart Failure. she has been put on a salt-free diet. She also cannot have sugar. I could use some help and or guidance in order to cook and combine healthy yet delicious meals for her. She is 64 years old. She is on blood thiners. She is going thru a stage of being upset in her stomach and has no appetite to eat

Fresh fruit and vegetables are a good basis for a diet here.
Cereals and starchy foods are good - but not highly refined foods.
Avoid foods high in fat, and cooking methods like frying. Don't add butter to food.
Use lean meat, fresh fish.
Don't add salt at any stage.

Sugar free & starch free

I am needing to follow a NO starch & No sugar diet for a few weeks. Can someone please recommend a site where or info where I can find a list of starchy foods and sugary foods so I know what not to eat. And also, I no I should avoid all alcohol, but if I have one or two drinks what would be OK to have that does not have Starch or Sugar?
