A winter walk in bright sunshine, starting from the main car park in Moretonhampstead. Paths are easy to follow, although there are quite a lot of stiles to climb over.
The path crosses the ramparts of Wooston Castle, an iron age hill fort. It is quite easy to go wrong here - keep right of the memorial post for a track that drops steeply down to the river below.
Turn left to follow the track up the bank of the River Teign. There are the remains of a large water mill just below Fingle Bridge. Here the track climbs steeply up to Cranbrook Castle. There is a good view point of Castle Drogo half way up.
After skirting the edge of Butterdon Hill the path is more or less straight back to Moretonhampstead.
