This walk starts at the top of the Schatzbergalm gondola.
Follow path 54 just west of the gondola station, and it drops north to a coll. From the coll a short steep climb up to a ridge rich in alpine flowers- Thalerkogel. The path continues north west along the ridge and then drops down to farm buildings at Hoslalm. Here the map shows a path straight on down the hillside, but this is blocked by barbed wire. Turn right on the road and follow it down round one bend before rejoining the path west down to the coll. Path 27 climbs steeply from the coll and then winds its way up (and down) to the top of the Gratlspitz. This route is particularly rich in alpine flowers. Take path 10 down from the Gratlspitz to the Holzalmhaus and then continueon path 10 down to Thierbach, before selecting one of several paths on down to Muhltal.
The GPS track hasn't recorded this final part of the route accurately.

This walk starts at the top of the Schatzbergalm gondola.
It follows path 8 to Hahnkopf and then to the top of the Joelspitze.
This path continues as path 48 skirting the Saupanzen to the east before climbing the ridge to the Lampersberg.
From the top we took path 7, steeply down a sharp ridge to the east. Quite a lot of flowers here. We took the branch down past the Baumgartalm, taking path 7 and then path 50 steadily down through wild meadows and wooded areas.
This brought us out to a bus stop in the valley, but we continued on to the bottom of the lift at Auffach.

This walk starts from the top of the Markbachjoch gondola. We headed up the ridge to Rosskoppf before taking path 22 down to Kasealm. Follow the track to Horterstiegl and then path 2 as it leaves this track to follow the ridge. The steepest part of the path is the final ridge up to the Feldalphorn. There were only limited flowers up here on the acidic soils. The best flowers were the marshy areas as we followed path 2 back from Horterstiegel back to the Markbachjochalm.

This walk starts from the middle of the village of Oberau and follows route 11 via Bergstadl and Achentalalm to Kragenjochkreuz. This is a limestone hill and has some of the best flowers in easy reach of Oberau. It is a steady climb all the way but the paths are well made.
After spending some time on the meadows I returned to the Achentalalm I followed route 25 as it contours through woodland to the Hausberghof, and then followed route 14 an almost level track to Eisstein, then on to Oberhausberg before dropping down the road, route 12, to Niederau

We took path 57 from penkenjoch to Wangalm, and then path 55 until we could cut across to the track to Lammerbichl.
There are a couple of points where the walk could be shortened by descending earlier to the return path.
Our descent at lammerbichl was not on a path. We dropped down the hillside looking for flowers until we came to path 53 back to Lammerbichalm. Return by the track 51 to Lammerbichalm unless you are very sure footed and sure of your navigation.
We came back on the lower track and paths 53, 61, 59 to Schrofenalm, then via paths and tracks to Neuraufwald, reaching the midstation via path 28.

This walks starts up the single chair from Ramsau, but you could equally well start up the Hainzenberg gondola to Gerlosstein Berggasthof.

This route follows the gentle track up from Sonnalm heading south. Where the track turns back on itself the path continues south and climbing gently through wooded pasture. When it reaches the track of path 50 from the Gerlosstein Berggasthof, turn left , and then look out for a signed turn right up a meadow just before a small chalet. This is shown as a dotted path on the map, but is clearly waymarked and climbs fairly gently, first through meadows and then woodland. Towards the top it climbs more steeply, and then brings you out into a wide bowl beneath the mountain peaks. Look for the path markers to your left as you pass a small hut and a signpost. This is on limestone rock and the flowers here were the best seen all week.
Take a little time to explore this bowl, and a couple of ruined chalets, before returning to the path. You now join the main path up to Gerlossteinwald, along the edge of shear cliffs.
This is a popular destination and you may find large numbers of other walkers and picnickers on top admiring the views.
Return to the point where you joined the main path and follow it over the ridge where a well made path descends to a cross roads of paths. Follow the valley route north west and then left on the track back to the Gerlosstein Berggasthof. I then followed the signed path 50 back to the chair at Sonnalm

Ride the chairlift up the mountain from Ramsau, then take the branch of path 50 that climbs up the ridge through the hay meadows and woodland to the Gerlosstein Berggasthof. This is a large hotel that is also the top station for the gondola from Hainzenberg.
We turned sharp right here on a track that runs fairly level signposted to Brandberg. Still the number 50. The track later turns into a path. Later the path descends steeply through woodland, with several roots possible down to Brandberg, or onwards to Mayrhofen.
The best flowers were along the high, level section of track, and there were also a couple of mountain huts open for refreshments.

The path follows the Holne Moor Leat, until it meets the track down to Combestone Farm. Then back out onto the moor, follow the track up hill, south to the road and have a look at the rocks at Combestone Tor.

Follow the road west until it forks above Forest Inn, then take the Henroost track heading south east diagonally up the hillside. This track later curves south west to the mine workings at Hooten Wheals. We followed the stream down from here until a track heads uphill due east to Horn's Cross on the ridge. We followed the track south here to meet the top of the Sandy Way track, then heading north of east down the ridge, with views of Venford reservoir on our left. This becomes a gravel track back to the paved road. We kept on the moor to the side of the road back to the reservoir.

This is the track of the old railway, which you follow till it leaves the moor, ( though we cut out the loop round Kings Tor ) Then we walked up to Sharpitor, skirt the rocks due south from Leather Tor following the wall down till you meet a lane and the Devonport Leat. Follow the leat briefly before taking the track down to the clapper bridge. Go up the valley and take the right fork of the lane that takes you back out onto the moor on a rough track . The track continues right up until the path crosses from Nun's Cross. Turn left for South Hessary Tor along this well made path, then on to Princetown.

Note that the estuary lane is tidal. It can be impassable for 2.5 hours each side of the high tide, so make sure that your walk times are coordinated with the tide! If you can see the tide flowing in as you get to the river you are too late. The lowest points on the lane are at the beginning and the end of the lane section and fill up fast!!

We walked this 9 mile route in wintry weather starting from the large car park at the top of Pork Hill, heading north over the coll between Cox Tor and Great Staple Tor. The path then skirts a large area of tin workings, before crossing enclosed fields at Wedlake.
Head up the wet moorland to Stephen' Grave - a small stone marks the spot. Then keep north along the edge of the moor, and follow the path through an alley between walls, before heading west down a narrow lane. This emerges at the small hamlet of Cudlipptown. Head north up the surface lane (miss the field path on your left) and take a narrow lane down to Horndon Bridge, then up a narrow track to Horndon.

Note the leat that supplies water to the hydroelectric powerstation.

You can take the path right just before the Elephant's Nest, or carry on down the road to take a path left signed over the fields.
This takes you down past dissused shafts and a mine chimney to the church at Mary Tavy.

Continue south past the small power station, and the footbridge over the River Tavy, on a track that comes out at peter Tavy.
There are several paths you can take back up to the moor, but on this occasion we went up past Harragrove and Youlditch, to then contour round over the lane and a clear path back to the car park.

Paths are easy to follow, although there are quite a lot of stiles to climb over.

The path crosses the ramparts of Wooston Castle, an iron age hill fort. It is quite easy to go wrong here - keep right of the memorial post for a track that drops steeply
down to the river below.

Turn left to follow the track up the bank of the River Teign. There are the remains of a large water mill just below Fingle Bridge. Here the track climbs steeply up to Cranbrook Castle. There is a good view point of Castle Drogo half way up.

After skirting the edge of Butterdon Hill the path is more or less straight back to Moretonhampstead.

This 8.5 mile walk starts from extensive car car parking space on the old aerodrome at Roborough.
The path off the moor goes under a splendid blue brick viaduct that at present is being renovated. Follow the side of the river down to Grenofen Bridge, where you cross the bridge to follow the north bank most of the way down to Waters Meet. You cannot cross here if the river is in flood, as the bridge doesn't span all the channels.
Head downstream till the mine waste shows the arsenic content, then follow the track inland and uphill away from the river. Once clear of the taller vegetation a path leads off to the right until at a junction of paths, a right turn takes you down to a gate and a track leading off the moor. Keep straight on when you get to a narrow country lane, then take a right fork signed to hatch mill.
Here the path continues alongside the river, through bamboo filled woodland, until a drive way brings you back onto a narrow lane, A sharp left turn uphill brings you to a path going off at the next corner. Right when you get to a road, then another path left takes you through fields heading for the tower of Buckland Monachorum Church. Keep left of the hedge at a very muddy farmyard to a style right in the corner and out onto a village road.
The final stretch of path takes you up the side of the churchyard, and continues fairly straight, over a number of styles till you return to the Moor. Head over the road and right to retrace your outgoing route back to your starting point.

We parked in the village of Femes on the roadside - you can see our yellow car in the first picture.
We got off to an early start so did most of this walk in the morning while it was still cool. This walk would be like an oven on a hot day!

Start by following the track up to the goat house on the top of the hill.
There are information boards here and the tracks are waymarked. This landscape is all rather bare from overgrazing by the goats.

Follow the ridge path northwest, past the first small peak, then follow the ridge up to the second peak.
(Unless you are a good walker stay on the waymarked path and continue on to the next coll, before the waymarked path brings you back across the top of the next valley.)

We then followed the crest of the ridge down, picking our way carefully till we rejoined the very clear path as it comes over the ridge. Turn right to follow this clear path. In the next valley bottom we left the path to investigate a reddish mound. It hides a well in its center with unprotected lose scree slopes falling into it. A death trap for children and animals.

From there we followed the quad bike track up to the top of the next ridge where it rejoins the waymarked path.
Just to the west of the ridge is a large water tank (bring your own bucket and rope) and a shelter, which has now lost its roof, but the walls provide some shade.

The path is clearly marked as it drops slightly into the next valley, and then climbs up to the next ridge. There are some rocks a little way up the ridge that can also provide some shade.

The path levels out at the top of the ridge with views out over the Rubicon plain.

The path continues from here, mostly level, following a black water pipe on a path cut out of the side of the mountain.

It then crosses a high coll, still following the water pipe, to continue mostly level on the east side of the next hill. There are spectacular views of coloured cliffs here, and the goat farms sheds built into the side of the cliff opposite.

Stout shoes and bottled water is needed for this walk. Walking boots are better. Certainly not a walk for sandals.

Look at the satellite view on the map above and zoom in to see the detail. You can clearly see the path on the ground - two foot wide at most.
Because the gps track shown is simplified only the points are correctly placed - don't follow the straight lines in between!

We parked by the shop in the middle of this development, then walked up to the track that runs past the top of the houses. We followed this track, gently climbing, past a small house at a mine adit and spoil heap, and continued until we came to a steep rock shute that had covered the path.
The path does continue but would be very dangerous in wet weather an may be obstructed by more landslides and rock shutes. there is no sign of any recent maintenance on this track.

We then returned down to the mine adit and took the sloping path down towards the shore. When it forks we continued north until it reached the shore at a small shack.

Here we clambered down to the beach and returned over the beach stones until we reached the long sandy beach back to our start.
This part would not be passable at high tide in stormy weather.

Do look at the satellite view of the map. The detail is fantastic.

Fantastic views from the cliffs above and beyond the Mirador del Rio. A track leaves the carpark and goes round to the trig point on top, avoiding the gates at the Mirador.

You cannot get any further than the end of this track.

Lanzarote Maguez cliff walk

Do switch to satellite view and zoom in. The detail is truly amazing.

I parked on the village street where it widened - shown where the walk track ends.

The walk starts up a small but surfaced side road.
After passing a large concreted water catchment area I cut a corner , going first to look at the quarry where they dig out the black grit. Do keep well back from the edge. The route on till the top is fairly obvious.

I then followed paths that were fairly close to the cliff. A low saddle joins too sections of cliff path with a small sheltered walls right on the edge here.

The path beyond is faint and continues level until you are back on the cliff, and then follows the cliff edge down to a small set of farm buildings.

The remainder of the walk is on vehicle tracks, mostly unsurfaced.

This was an 8 mile walk in bright autumn sunshine starting from a carpark at Batworthy Corner on Dartmoor. A couple of short steep climbs but otherwise mostly level

Lanzarote, Playa Blanca, Playa de Papagayo.
This is an easy walk following the cliffs and beaches. Drive right through all the new development till you get to the roundabout at the end. There is plenty of parking here just before the hotel- no need to pay the fees to drive right up to the beaches.
The main paths head straight for the beaches, but a smaller path takes you out to the first headland and then along the cliffs.

At the end we simply cut back across inland, with the hotel as a landmark to head for. Our route passes a deep well in one of the gullies with a crumbling wall round the top.
