Re: Millet Bread Recipe  Posted by Gwenevere
The best breads and pizza crusts I have found to my utter delight (amazing raisin bread) is from a company called Glutino. I have a seriously sensitive condition and can't even do foods on shared equipment and have found I never have any problems with them. I am noticing now more and more company's are trying to jump onto the GF bandwagon but still produce all the wheat products on their sights- so REALLY look at the small print if you are super sensitive like myself. I am also learning that some countries have a standard of putting "Gluten Free" on the label when there still can be what is considered by their standards a "negligable" amount of wheat used! Be careful people.... any wheat at all just drop kicks me. Just focus and then write to the companys if you had a reaction.

Good Luck to All of You

Re: Coeliac and wheat intollerance  Posted by mandy Winrow
my 4 year old had severe diarrheor for 18 months and at the time i was consulting the doctors who assured me there was nothing wrong with her and tested her for wheat intolerence. As a mum, i know that when she eats wheat she has a reaction.

i have taken her of gluten now but the school need a certificate to say that thye are fine to prepare gluten free meals for her as self diagnosis is not acceptable......

I dont know what to do as i know that she is allergic but the tests say no, all is ok with her? any ideas of other tests that dont cost the earth. i am in Spain?

A freind of my wifes' told her about Easy Bakers Gluten Free
flour. Gluten & Dairy-Free Bread Mixes

It's a bread mix from LAKELAND.

Each bag comes with 4 separate 500g packets that makes a 2lb loaf at least. If you follow the simple instructions you get a loaf with a lovely crust and a soft light texture of a normal loaf. It is the best bread i have found that is like normal bread and tastes quite good.

Traveling to England  Posted by Jess
Pretty much all the supermarkets have a gluten-free range; Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda and Morrisons are all good, once you find it! Tesco's range is called free from and is in yellow and purple packaging. Sainsbury's is the only one I have come across that has a proper frozen range, with pizza, chicken nuggets, burgers, sausages and chicken kiev! Also, Sainsbury's sometimes have 'Gluten free' written on products. Marks and Spencer is quite good but you have to look at the labels, they are a little more pricey but use better ingredients and less rubbish in their foods.

Be warned though, they aren't cheap, but then nothing is now! :)

A good restaurant chain is the Spainish Tapas chain, La Tasca. They mark everything that is gluten free on their menu, but it is all done in the same kitchen so it depends how bad you get. Also Starbucks and Costa do gluten free brownies and cakes, just look at the labels. Most restaurants are accommodating now, as long as you let them know, oh, and thepub chain Witherspoons now lists the gluten free meals on it's menu too, and there is a Witherspoon's in pretty much every town in the UK!

Hope this helps

Re: is Maltodextrine also Malt  Posted by Louise McNamara
Maltodextrin although from a gluten containing ingredient is supposed to be so processed that it can be considered gluten free. But I think it depends on how tolerant you are. I know I have problems if I eat/drink anything with this kind of ingredient.

Also most coeliacs are underweight before diagnosis, due to the damage in the gut so you can't absorb food properly and the food just passes on through. I know I am only starting to put on a bit of weight again several months after being diagnosed.

hope this helps

Louise

Re Rita Brickle and her attempt to drink a bottle of malt vinegar  Posted by peter martin
Hi Rita. So you just managed to drink one third of the bottle of malt vinegar in one go wanting... to drink the whole bottle ! You have some sense of humour ! Was that a safe thing to do you ask. I don't know, was it? Are you OK now ? I hope your feeling better. Take my advice sweetheart and just sprinkle the stuff over your chips and get yourself a bottle of French or Australian wine instead of the vinegar

Hi Margaret

I would love any recipes you may have that are gluten free bread mixes for bread makers. If you have any that are also dairy free that would be great as my 1 and half year old is both gluten and dairy intolerant.

Re: Gluten Intolerance and Ulcerative Colitis  Posted by leila
hi there,

I posted quite some time ago, had a really rough ride with my uc, and was on the verge of surgery. Then I found this website, and decided to give going gluten free a go! Has been nearly two years now, and have had no symptoms, have reduced most of my meds (now on 50 mg 6mp, and 1200mg meazavant xl; the equivalent of 3x2 asacol tablets per day) and along with a few supplements (cod liver oil, l-glutamine and seacure tablets) have been able to resume a perfectly normal life, where as I once thought that would not be possible. I eat healthier now than ever, and even eat raw fruit and salads again!

Thank goodness that this site exists, otherwise I would have taken a lot more painful and traumatic route. Good luck to everyone who goes for the gluten free approach, I hope that it works just as well for you.

ps, saw gastroenterologist recently, who said my remission was not to due to my gluten free diet, that it was just a coincidence! Typical!

Re: Gluten Intolerance and Ulcerative Colitis  Posted by Jessica
My partner has Ulcerative Colitis and the asacol only helped lessen the severity of symptoms. It wasn't until she started "The Maker's Diet" that she found complete relief of all GI issues. I was skeptical of this diet style, but a trusted friend recommended it to me. I was skeptical b/c it is partially based on the bible. However, the doctor offered good scientific explanation for most of his recommendations, also. I thought it would be helpful to make this dietary change together, and we are both amazed at the results. She still takes her medication, but it has changed our lives so much. Since changing my eating, I got a full blood workup and it was all perfect. Good luck to you all on your journeys to health.

Re: Coeliac and wheat intollerance  Posted by Leah
Oh my God!!!! I cant believe some doctors!!!! I, myself like your daughter had coeliacs....well at least all the systems of coeliacs for as long as I remember, it wasnt until I was 18 I actually got diagnosed with the disease, after alot of times they kept reasuring me everything was fine too. I recommend you definatley get a second opinion. Chrones disease is very similar but I think more severe other wise IBS is also another thing to watch out for. I would try and find a specalist for that area so maybe an endoscopy could be done. And as for the school ask them why a peanut allergy can be taken as gospel from a parent, and as a parent you are not asking them for a favor to look after your daughter you are demanding it, and with that said for no gluten to be put in any of her foods. YOU are the person that makes decisions for your daughter not the schoool or any piece of paper confirming what you would prefer for your daughter to eat. Hope I helped!!! all the best with your little God send

What you can eat on a gluten-free diet  Posted by Jennifer
I have just been diagnosed gluten-intolerant. It is the small things that catch you out! I see that Kelloggs cornflakes include flavouring from barley malt, and wheat dextrose turns up quite frequently. Are these flavourings, which must be in very small quantities, enough to cause problems?

Many thanks for your most informative site

If you look at the order of ingredients in the list, the barley comes out at about 10\%
