I'm new to all this  Posted by
Hi, I'm just beginning to start the food combining diet/way of life. I am physically disabled and in a wheelchair. I have a congenital hip problem and athritis in most joints. I have numerous other health problems including being exceedingly overweight.

I don't have a huge amount of money to spend on fruit each week but I hope that I will be able to work it out.

I have bought 'Food combining for heath' by Doris Grant and Jean Joice. I'm ploughing through this. I have also bought a couple of recipe books, but they haven't arrived yet!

So far, it all seems very complicated! So I'm taking it a step at a time. It's great to know that there is a discussion board for all this.

I'm interested to hear how others have managed the food, and what improvemants, if any, they have experienced.

Thanks for reading this.

(by the way I'm an OU student...saw you are a tutor)

Bye for now
Ali

HTML>Hi Ali

Some books do seem to make it very complicated, but it isn't really.

The main thing you are cutting out of your diet are the food mixtures like cake and biscuits, and things with fat rich sauces.

Don't worry if you don't get everything right to start with.

You can keep the cost of fruit down by buying whatever is the cheapest in season, and Tesco's value tinned peaches and fruit salad are excellent. It doesn't matter about the sugar in the juice as long as you don't add any more.
I like their tinned peaches with cornflakes for breakfast.

Hello Ali,

I have also just started going the food combining way. It is very easy when you have read the basics in the book. I spent the first week carrying the book around and thought that I would be doing so for ever!
I don't think that fruit is any more expensive than convenience foods and I have found that now I have the basics to follow some recipes, I am spending less on food than before. I tend to shop in Asian supermarkets where I can find a greater variety of fruit and veg and the prices are much lower than in general supermarkets..
I have been keeping to the rules as far as possible but it is OK to use other recipes or just do your own thing as long as you keep the starches and proteins separate, leave four hours between a protein and starch meal and have one or more alkaline meals per day.
I have suffered from a back / nervous system condition for many years and I am hoping this way of eating will help me feel better.
I find it quite easy now that I have stopped carrying the book everywhere! I have also just bought "7 day diet plan" by Caroline Humphries for £1.50 from the used book section of Amazon. It is very easy to get on with and I find that the author has brought the Hay diet up to date.

I hope this helps!

Regards

Chris
