We were very pleased with all the accommodation we booked for our stay.

We booked, by email, directly with the owners of each of the following. They were all clean, tidy, and we received a very warm welcome. Most were luxurious and all were excellent value for money. All expect payment in cash.

Glenfalloch, Landing Rd, Kerikeri. Bay of Islands

Set in spectacular gardens. Luxurious accommodation. We had a large room that included a comfortable siting area plus en-suit.

The owners have excellent local knowledge - ask them where to go, what to see and where to eat! If you are interested in the citrus orchards and the crops they grow, just ask.

A car is needed to get to most eating places.

Several walks from the door. Glenfalloch

Coppers Creek, a small farm near Coroglen on Coromandel. The large main room - bottom right of the picture - is well equipped with a small kitchinette, seating area and comfortable bed. A second room with bunk beds is also available - this would be excellent for a family.

The owners have excellent local knowledge - ask them where to go, what to see and where to eat!

66 State Highway 33, near the junction with highway 30.

This is well set back from the main road, with a good parking area. This was the smallest room that we stayed in on this trip, and not en-suit, but there was a sitting area adjoining. Good access to several local walking trails - but you need a car.

Owners have excellent knowledge of local hunting and fishing.

Creel Lodge at Turangi.

Far more room than we were expecting! A large well equipped living room with kitchen area, two bedrooms and a veranda on the front. These lodges are well spaced out in a secluded garden backing on to the Tongariro river.

There is also a shared laundry room with a tumble drier - very useful to have a full set of clean clothes again!

This is mainly used by fishermen, but we found this an excellent base for walking. We were picked up outside the gate for the Tongariro crossing (booked the day before at the visitor centre at Turangi).

Several eating places in walking distance.

Devonport Sea Cottage was our delightful base for exploring Auckland. Not bed and breakfast, but 2 eggs, tea, coffe and milk plus cereals were provide for one breakfast. A large room with a double bed, sofa, cooking area to one side, bathroom and balcony.

We walked into Devonport for meals and to catch the ferry over to Auckland. The cottage sits in a corner of a garden. parking on a quiet road beside the house.

Lenvor is luxurious bed and breakfast accommodation down a country lane off State Highway 1 between Hamilton and Cambridge. A good clear sign on the main road when travelling south. A couple of hours drive from the airport, so a good place to start or end a holiday. This is also an excellent base for exploring this area.

The owners are very knowledgeable about the area - ask them where to go, what to see and where to eat!
