We had a beautifully clear day for this 10 mile walk. Set off up the west bank of the Plym above cadover bridge, following an old roadway to start with, then a fairly clear path keeps fairly close to the river as you head upstream. When you come to a wall and fence that runs down to the river, a difficult style beside the river, but an easy gate just inland. Continue up beside the river until the bank steepens and the path moves inland. There are a lot of hut circles here, easily visible in the winter, but hidden by the bracken in summer.
Follow the path slightly away from the river to another gate, and a path that heads towards Didsworthy Warren House - it is very boggy if you follow the riverside here.
After the Warren House a broad path continues upstream. These horses tend to stay in this area. Don't feed them - it gets them killed!!
Follow the path up to the group of three standing stones. Each with a stone row and cairn at the end.
At the top stone turn right following a vague path that continues uphill or level, but getting closer to the river again.
It reaches the river at Plym steps. Turn left up the track, and then leave it at the first dip, heading uphill and north which brings you out to lower hartor Tor.
From Lower hartor Tor, head west and slightly uphill to Higher Hartor Tor, and then continue west to reach the medieval farm and mines at Eylesbarrow.
These stones held the track rods that transmitted power from the waterwheel below up to the water pumps in the mine.
Substantial walls of the water wheel house still remain.
A broad track now runs south to the scout hut - don't take the left fork.
At the scout hut, cross the bridge and then left up the open ground, then follow the path up beside a fence to the top of Gutter Tor.
The path continues over a fence to the trig point, with excellent views in all directions - here looking north beyond Burrator to Leather Tor
Now head west over Ringmoor Down to come out at Ringmoor Cottages, with this excellent view south into Cornwall.
Go over the style and wall, then turn left and follow the track back, with a short section of road that brings you out onto Wigford down. Head up onto wigford down rather than following the road back, keeping to the right hand side of the pools. This should bring you out past a large standing cross, and onto the road at Cadover Bridge.
