Walking the Isle of Wight

Coast Path from Yarmouth to the Needles and Freshwater Bay

Freshwater bay to Brightstone Beacon, return via Coast

From Godshill to Shanklin, Ventnor and return over the downs

Sponsors:

Another fairly long circular walk that could be started from any point with free parking. We started at Godshill and set out on the Stenbury trail towards Appuldurcombe.

A magnificent gate house stands on the path.

With good views out to the east

Appuldurcombe house has a splendid front!

After passing through Wroxall, climb out on the Worsley trail, back up onto the downland - looking east.

and follow the rolling downland paths until you see Shanklin and Sandown below.

The above view continued inland.

Head down towards Shanklin Chine, but then turn right when you reach the small road to Luccombe Village.

The path continues down through a landslip before coming out on the coast at Monks bay, below.

A concrete promenade now takes you round to Ventnor.

At Ventnor we headed up through the town, past the cemetary, to climb steeply up onto Rew Down

View from Stenbury Down

Before following the ridge over Appuldurcombe Down.-looking back up at the ridge at Gat Cliff.

Turn right at Sainham farm to follow an attractive path down a quiet valley that comes out back at the car park in Godshill.
