Walking in Winter Snow Wengen Switzerland

Walking round Wengen

Walking Grutschalp to Murren to Gimmelwald

Kleine Scheidegg to Grindelwald

First to Faulhorn to Bussalp - the longest toboggan run

Mannlichen to Grund

Sponsors:

This is the longest and hardest walk in the series. Don't attempt it unless the weather is blue sky, sunshine and no wind. If the signs say the path is closed - it means just that.

The Faulhorn Hotel was closed when we walked it in mid January, so there were no facilities between First and Bussalp. Take food and water.

If you are staying at Wengen you need an early start to get the train from Wengen over to the village of Grindelwald.(otherwise you won't get back down in time for the bus down from Bussalp)

Take the gondola system up from Grindelwald to First. The path from the top is well signposted, and prepared.

It passes the frozen Bachalpsee at 2265m.

Then starts to climb a little more steeply. The views back are well worth the effort.

From the flagpole behind the Faulhorn there are excellent views in all directions.

You return back to the coll and then you can see the return path and tobogan run winding over the landscape below.

Looking back up towards the coll. The Faulhorn is middle left of the picture.

Looking down into Grindelwald from Bussalp. The staff of the restaurant here go home on the last bus, so if you miss the bus you have a cold and hungry walk back down the road.
