Wengen sits on a mountain shelf high above the valley of Lauterbrunnen.

Access is only via the mountain railway. Although mostly traffic free, the main street can be quite busy with electric taxis ferrying people and goods from the station to the hotels and chalets.

A farming community still live and work in the village.

and they still take their cattle on a walk for exercise round the village!

Traditional farm equipment stored under the eaves of a chalet beside the path.

The local tourist office has an excellent map of the paths round the village, and there are copies of it on display. The paths here are extremely well signposted. It is well worth walking to the lookout points at each end of the village where the views are spectacular.
